Devi Ahilya Bai Holkar Airport (IATA: IDR, ICAO: VAID) is a customs airport that principally serves Indore and adjacent regions in the Indian State of Madhya Pradesh. It is the busiest airport in Central India and is located 8 km west of Indore. According to the statistics released by the Airports Authority of India, the agency responsible for the maintenance and management of the airport, it was the 18th busiest airport in India by passenger traffic in the year 2018-19. The airport is named after Maharani Ahilya Bai Holkar of Indore, belonging to the Holkar dynasty of the Maratha Empire. Devi Ahilya Bai Holkar Airport, Indore was adjudged as the best airport in under 20 lakh (2 million) annual passenger footfall category in Asia Pacific region in the Airports Council International (ACI)'s airport service quality (ASQ) rankings for the year 2017. The World Book of Records, UK bestowed Worlds Standardisation Certification to Devi Ahilya Bai Holkar Airport, Indore for the achievement of ACI Award 2017 on 9 April 2018.

INDORE IS WELL CONNECTED BY RAIL

Indore Junction (station code: INDB) is one of the Railway junctions in Madhya Pradesh and serves Indore, the commercial capital of Central India. The railway station of Indore Junction BG (future Indore Central) falls under the administrative control of Western Railway zone of Indian Railways. It consists of six main railway platforms. The Ujjain-Indore route and Indore Junction was electrified in 2011. The Station is located 1 km away from the city center. It is one of the ISO Certified Railway Stations of India.

INDORE IS WELL CONNECTED BY ROAD

Indore is fairly well connected to different parts of Madhya Pradesh as well as India. The major national highways passing through the city are:

  • National Highway No. 3 (NH3 - Agra Bombay)
  • National Highway No. 59 (NH 59 - Indore Ahmedabad)
  • National Highway No. 59A (Indore - Betul - Nagpur connecting NH 69)

The Mumbai- Indore section of the National Highway No. 3 and the Ahmedabad - Indore section of the National Highway No. 59 are undergoing multi laining under the NHDP program. Other important regional highways are:

  • State Highway No. 27 (Indore to Burhanpur)
  • State Highway No. 34 (Indore to Jhansi)

This makes the place very accessible. The city is connected to all the major and minor cities nearby, via proper roads. There are bus services to and from Indore to facilitate traveling. The prominent cities linked to Indore by road are Bhopal, Barwani, Khandwa, Ujjain, Dewas, Dhar, Ratlam, Khargoan, Jhabua and Agar. The major bus terminals are Sarwate bus terminal, Gangwal bus terminal, Navlakha bus stand.
